"Believing in yourself is the first step and embracing your imperfections."
Model Citizen Media provides a platform to recognise fashion models, photographers, designers, makeup artists, hair stylists, creative directors, bloggers, stylists, and labels around the world. Every day, we feature an individual on Model Citizen Interviews. People get to know each of them - their hopes, challenges, aspirations and inspirations in life.
Tell us about yourself, why you are passionate about what you do, and your journey so far. I love exploring with different styles which express the diversity in life, personalities and themes. I believe we should all feel the most beautiful versions of ourselves and be acceptive of everyones individuality by whatever makes them feel happiest and most confident. I think modelling's wide range of styles allows people to be accepting of that. What are your goals and how do you see yourself progressing in the field? I honestly don't have a set goal right now, and am just enjoying gaining skills and experimenting with different styles of modelling. Every opportunity I am going to take and make the best out of it, so wherever that takes me I don't mind as long as I'm happy. How do you communicate with people? Are you patient? Are you friendly? How open are you to clients’ requirements? I'm very friendly and open to the options I am given, keeping true to myself and what I know I will succeed well in. If you had to do it over again, what would you change? No, I believe everything happens for a reason and has built me to be the person I am today. Who is your hero, and how have they helped you get to where you are? My mum will always be my biggest hero. She's always pushed my sisters and I to go after our dreams whatever they may be and always believed in us even when we don't believe in ourselves; she always helps us find a way to achieve them in every way possible. She's helped me get to where I am because she's taught me to be strong, always kind and when you are knocked down to get back up on your feet to keep going. To me these are the wisest words that have kept me going, which I hope can inspire others to do the same. How important are creative education courses? Have you taken any, and did you find them useful? Yes, I was a member of Stage Coach from the age of three until I was twelve years old. This gave me a huge stepping stone in developing core skills and working on a variety of performances and projects, with lots of different people of all ages. In the industry the more able you are to adapting to a range of different styles and genres the more opportunity and skills you have to offer and showcase, whilst working with people from a young age massively benefited my communication skills and being able to work as a team. Do you have any tips for someone who is just starting out in the industry? Confidence. Be you. And have etiquette. Believing in yourself is the first step and embracing your imperfections. Not everyone is flawless- there isn't a 'perfect' body shape, as long as you own it and give it everything you've got you'll be looking and feeling amazing. It will also make you appear a lot more experienced and professional. Being you is also key if you want to be recognised and stand out, individuality is something we should all embrace and will definitely allow people to remember you. If you're not eccentric - don't worry! Don't be someone you're not and you'll feel more comfortable and confident, and this will show. Lastly Etiquette, knowing how to communicate with others is vital if you want to be successful in anything; by selling yourself, being respectful of others and not expecting the world you'll stay more humble and people will be more likely to enjoy your company, enabling you to be hired again and spread your work further in the industry. Work your way up and enjoy it.
