"I make people understand that am professional on set, then playful off set and they shouldn't mix things up."
Model Citizen App is the platform where we recognise fashion models, photographers, designers, makeup artists, hair stylists, creative directors, bloggers, stylists, and labels around the world. Every day, we feature an individual on Model Citizen Interviews. People get to know each of them - their hopes, challenges, aspirations and inspirations in life.
Tell us about yourself: Why do you want to work as a model? Why are you interested in modelling as a career?
At first, I never really considered modelling. I just adored my elder sis and i love the way she walked. She was slim and catwalked anywhere she went. Soon I started doing the same and a lot of friends started asking if I was a model and pushing me towards it. I soon feel in love with everything about modelling:- the prepping for a fashion show, fittings and let's not forget the attention.
How important is modelling education: Have you attended modelling courses? What related courses or studies have you taken?
Yes I have. When I initially thought about going into modelling, I figured out that I needed training. I enrolled in a 6 months course with an agency (Gold models agency). They taught me a lot and i can honestly say that formed the backbone of my modelling career. I believe modelling education is very important. You might have the natural talent for modelling and be very good at it but you still need someone in the industry to show you more, show you how to survive in the industry. You need to know what things are needed for casting, what scouts look out for in you, how to address and approach other models, designer and photographers and let's not forget how to even do various poses. No matter how natural you are, there are still something's you need to be taught
What do you think makes someone “fit” to be a model?
"Fit" varies. There are different types of models. I believe everyone fits into a specific category. You just have to know which you fit it. If you are a plus size, you definitely cant fit as a runway model. You have better chances in slimming down a little bit and becoming a commercial/bikini Model. To be fit as a model means your body stats and potential match the category of modelling you desire and you are determined to work for it just in case you are not nearly as fit.
What are your goals as a model? How do you see yourself progressing in this field?
My goal is to grace every top runway show around the world. I want to be on the cover page or be featured on at least 60% of the major magazine a around the world. Most especially, I want to influence other models. He a role model to them. I want them to see me and inspire to be like me if not better.
What do you know about advertising psychology and photography?
I honestly don't know much about the advertisement industry or advertising psychology and as for photography, all I know is that it is art. It's not just a photographer taking random pics, it's about the photographer working together with the model to make perfection. I always love doing random shoot with photographer. I plan for the shoots and give it my best while having it in mind that the photographer is also doing his.
How do you communicate with people? Are you patient? Are you friendly? How open are you to clients’ requirements?
First of all, I would like to say that modelling made me more of an extrovert. I stopped being the girl that stayed in door all day watching movies and keeping quiet to the one who puts herself it there. Am always calm and patient when communicating with people. Am also friendly but I try not to be too friendly. There are wolves in this industry. Am playful and lovely but I always draw the line. Whenever, I meet clients, I try to understand what they want and make sure I meet their needs without losing a part of me. I take into account their suggestions and give them mine.
Do you eat nutritiously? How often do you exercise or go to the gym?
Honestly, I try to. 70% of the time, I eat nutritiously but there are those rare instances where I let my love to try new things (food ) get the better of me. I exercise regularly but frequent the gym once in a while.
What is your dream role as a model?
My dream is to fly around the world wearing beautiful clothes by amazing designers and admiring fashion from a closer view while being featured on the cover of various top magazines.
Do you have any limitations? How do you define your boundaries when choosing to accept a modelling request?
Hmm... not really. I set boundaries when I feel like I can't provide exactly what the client wants. I don't like disappointing. Also I try to let clients understand in a subtle way that am playing and friendly but once it's time for business, things get serious. I make people understand that am professional on set, then playful off set and they shouldn't mix things up.
State your availability: Would you travel? Work full-time, part time? Any hours?
I am always available to travel and as for working full time, I believe it tied me down in a place unless the job requires me to travel around. Am a free spirit.
