"There's so many different looks that people are looking for that there's no single "perfect" look."
Model Citizen App is the platform where we recognise fashion models, photographers, designers, makeup artists, hair stylists, creative directors, bloggers, stylists, and labels around the world. Every day, we feature an individual on Model Citizen Interviews. People get to know each of them - their hopes, challenges, aspirations and inspirations in life.
Tell us about yourself: Why do you want to work as a model? Why are you interested in modelling as a career?
Typical transplant story of a southerner moving to the big city alone. However what makes my experience different than some others is that I actually experience the city rather than just move here. I try to get out and explore a new part of the city or go to events as much as possible. Great for networking and meeting other people in the industry. It's actually how I met an agent and got signed to my modeling agency.
How important is modelling education: Have you attended modelling courses? What related courses or studies have you taken?
I've never taken a modeling course. I got into modeling because everywhere I went I used to be asked "are you a model?" "Do you model?" So I was like hey I mind as well pursue modeling out. However, you do have to be dedicated to it and just can't take it lightly. Definitely something you have to work hard for, it takes on average and me as well about two years to actually get signed.
What do you think makes someone “fit” to be a model?
All that matters is confidence in the end. If you have confidence in yourself and can portray that confidence in a photo or in your walk you should be good. There's so many different looks that people are looking for that there's no single "perfect" look.
What are your goals as a model? How do you see yourself progressing in this field?
It's a big goal of mine to sign to RED, MAJOR, or IMG, I've admired their work for years. Now I'm focusing on gaining more professional experience and building my portfolio. I would also love to shoot for more high fashion and editorials.
What do you know about advertising psychology and photography?
Well I intern at PAPER Magazine doing Fashion Public Relations so I get a feel for both sides of the industry; the talent side and also the production side of things. It's a great balance and hope to further pursue advertising/PR within the fashion publication industry.
How do you communicate with people? Are you patient? Are you friendly? How open are you to clients’ requirements?
I'm super friendly, honestly ask me anything and I won't have a problem helping/answering it for you! I love meeting new people and getting to know about others and their experiences/stories. I'm pretty open to clients requirements, I try to keep an open mind to suggestions and I love to try out new things. How else would you know if you like it or not if you never try it?
Do you eat nutritiously? How often do you exercise or go to the gym?
I've been blessed with an extremely high metabolism so in recent years I've been taking advantage of that eating my favorite fatty foods more often than I should, but this past couple of months I have started to cut back and incorporate a more healthy dietary plan in my life just for the health aspect of things. I go jogging often along riverside park which has such great scenic views, other than I try to fit in gym time whenever I'm not super busy.
What is your dream role as a model?
I would love to be on the cover of a fashion publication whether it be (Conde Nast, Hearst, PAPER, etc.) It would be great to see myself on PAPER being that is where I'm starting my professional career, it'll be cool to be featured in/on a magazine I work at don't you think? I also would love to be the face of Tom Ford or Prada (two of my favorite brands).
Do you have any limitations? How do you define your boundaries when choosing to accept a modelling request?
I've only been asked once, but I'm not quite comfortable with nude shoots. Everything else that's been requested of me I had no problem with. As I mentioned before, I like to at least try things out once.
State your availability: Would you travel? Work full-time, part time? Any hours?
When you need me, I'll be there! As long as I'm notified in advance and able to plan my schedule around it I'm good to go!
