"A few years ago I worked as a dancer, and I really missed the stage..."
Model Citizen App is the platform where we recognise fashion models, photographers, designers, makeup artists, hair stylists, creative directors, bloggers, stylists, and labels around the world. Every day, we feature an individual on Model Citizen Interviews. People get to know each of them - their hopes, challenges, aspirations and inspirations in life.
Tell us about yourself: Why do you want to work as a model? Why are you interested in modelling as a career?
I had a connection to modeling since I was little. I would dress up and use my cheap little camera stand to take my own pictures. I never thought about modeling as a career until I became exposed to it by meeting local photographers. After my first couple test shoots I fell in love and I have been doing it ever since. I love how a model can portray a style, or story through body language, outfits, and posing. It drives me creatively.
How important is modelling education: Have you attended modelling courses? What related courses or studies have you taken?
I do not think it is necessary in order to become successful. I am self taught and I have curated my styles and poses over a period of time, working with different styles of photographers. Any education is a good investment, but I think modeling is something that comes naturally from within and it cannot be taught.
What do you think makes someone “fit” to be a model?
I don't think it has to do with a certain look. I think someone can be a model if they have a strong determination, self confidence, and the ability to create art.
What are your goals as a model? How do you see yourself progressing in this field?
I want to do more promotional modeling and work in catalogs. Being a freelance model can be very difficult in finding these jobs, so I am currently looking to connect with a representative.
What do you know about advertising psychology and photography?
I have learned about the advertisement industry in my schooling. It is very diverse with a goal to be unique and memorable. I do not know alot about technical aspects of photography. However, I do know there are a variety of genres and aesthetics in the field. My favorite photography genre is fashion because there is so much imagination in the creation of it.
How do you communicate with people? Are you patient? Are you friendly? How open are you to clients’ requirements?
I try to be as open minded and friendly as possible, especially when talking with a potential photographer or magazine.
Do you eat nutritiously? How often do you exercise or go to the gym?
More or less I try to eat 5 small meals a day. I make it a habit to workout about 4 days a week. I love going to the gym and lifting weights.
What is your dream role as a model?
Whenever someone flips open a magazine and looks at the ads I want to be the girl that catches their eye and makes them interested in a product.
Do you have any limitations? How do you define your boundaries when choosing to accept a modelling request?
As of right now I do not shoot nudes. This is not something I am completely opposed to but at this point in my career I don't see it as a necessity.
State your availability: Would you travel? Work full-time, part time? Any hours?
I am currently a full time student so my modeling is a part time job. My dream is to travel for my work. If I feel the right opportunity is offered I will find a way to make myself available.
