"Learn passionately, but take your time to grasp the basics before jumping on to more involved projects."
Model Citizen Media provides a platform to recognise fashion models, photographers, designers, makeup artists, hair stylists, creative directors, bloggers, stylists, and labels around the world. Every day, we feature an individual on Model Citizen Interviews. People get to know each of them - their hopes, challenges, aspirations and inspirations in life.
Tell us about yourself, why you are passionate about what you do, and your journey so far. The essence of capturing both light and time, while exploring someones past through their expression was always so magical to me. From a young age, I always found beauty in any individual, and it became clear that I would love to capture their stories and beauty through photography. Fast forward 4 years, and I am now 21 years old, and looking back at the amazing people and experiences I was able to achieve via this art form over the last few years has been an accomplishment in itself. I love what I do and I can only hope to grow each and every day in my respective field, so that I can keep delivering art into this world. Lastly, I'd like to express my gratitude for having found something I am so passionate about at such a young age. Bless. What are your goals and how do you see yourself progressing in the field? In the simplest terms, I'd love to pursue a career in photography. To be able to support both myself and my future family through this art form, is my ultimate goal. Evidently, I'm aware that this isn't something that I can achieve over night, but I believe in my ability (one step at a time) to one day, through sheer perseverance and passion, that I will fulfill my dream. How do you communicate with people? Are you patient? Are you friendly? How open are you to clients’ requirements? I'd like to say that I am compassionate and understanding to requests. However, I do feel strongly about my work and as such, I always ask clients to give me flexibility and to lend their trust in the work that I will produce. If you had to do it over again, what would you change? I know this may sound cheesy, but I actually wouldn't change anything. I've learned too much from the mistakes I have done in the past, and I am content with the experiences I was presented with in my years as a photographer. Possibly the only thing I would change, would be the age I started doing this. I would have loved to start younger, but financial considerations limited me. Who is your hero, and how have they helped you get to where you are? My hero on professional level, is Benjamin Von Wong. Being that he also is from Montreal and studied at McGill, makes me feel as though we share the same start to our career. I aspire to one day be along side shooting and producing the same caliber work he does. How important are creative education courses? Have you taken any, and did you find them useful? I'd give them great importance at younger ages. Finding self expression through creative arts has always been something I've been close with, and subsequently, I have only seen individuals grow through such methods. For this reason, I strongly support the idea. Personally, I did not have the luxury of taking any creative education courses, since I was always immersed in the sciences. Do you have any tips for someone who is just starting out in the industry? Learn passionately, but take your time to grasp the basics before jumping on to more involved projects. With regards to photography specifically, your gear will never be as powerful as your eyes and mind. Get creative, and not expensive, to achieve the shots you desire.
