"Fashion lives inside of me. I feel it flowing while asleep."
Model Citizen App is the platform where we recognise fashion models, photographers, designers, makeup artists, hair stylists, creative directors, bloggers, stylists, and labels around the world. Every day, we feature an individual on Model Citizen Interviews. People get to know each of them - their hopes, challenges, aspirations and inspirations in life.
Tell us about yourself, why you are passionate about what you do, and your journey so far. I'm the girl that goes grocery shopping wearing a full faux fur and glitter in my hair. I love hearing people tell me that they could not wear what I have on and then I simply explain to them how they can. I am a fashion risk taker, influencer and all around girly-girl. I graduated from the London College of Fashion in 2013 and from Stephens College in 2015 with a degree in Fashion Communication. After graduation I decided to free lance my talents focusing on fashion styling and creative directing. My journey has been amazing ever since. Fashion lives inside of me. I feel it flowing while asleep. I am constantly imagining shoots, outfits and how I can make them come alive. I love bringing other people's ideas to life while pushing their own fashion limitations. I guess it's safe to say I want to do this fashion thing for a long time. What are your goals and how do you see yourself progressing in the field? My main goal in my fashion career is to show other's how to wear fashion statement pieces in their everyday attire. To be bold and fearless in their style. I'd like to continue spreading my black girl magic, and empowering young girls. I would also like to style Beyonce, but who wouldn't right? How do you communicate with people? Are you patient? Are you friendly? How open are you to clients’ requirements? If I am working with a client I typically begin our conversations via email, then transition into texting. If I am networking I love to communicate via social media. Patience? I'm working on it. It so hard especially living in the fast paced time. I am a super friendly person. In the beginning I am reserved and observant but once I warm up, let the fun begin. I value what my client's want. But, I will ask the client are they working with me because they want me to add my style of work, or are they set on their own idea. Typically people place their trust in me and allow me to elevate their ideas. If you had to do it over again, what would you change? I would not change anything I've done thus far, it happened just the way it was supposed to. Who is your hero, and how have they helped you get to where you are? My heroes are my parents. They always instilled in me that I could do whatever I put my mind and hard work into. They taught me to not back down or allow others to tell me what I cannot do. Without their support I would not be where I am today. How important are creative education courses? Have you taken any, and did you find them useful? Attending Stephens College truly taught me how important it is to be in a creative environment surrounded by other creatives. I was so motivated and inspired by all of the amazing women I attended school with. You are able to bounce ideas off of each other and also having industry professionals as professors is a plus. Do you have any tips for someone who is just starting out in the industry? My advice to those just starting off in the industry is to never give up and work harder than hard. Don't forget to pull others up with you along the way. You can't do it all on your own. Unless you're Beyonce.
