"My hero is every woman who fights with courage and grace for who and what they love."
Model Citizen App is the platform where we recognise fashion models, photographers, designers, makeup artists, hair stylists, creative directors, bloggers, stylists, and labels around the world. Every day, we feature an individual on Model Citizen Interviews. People get to know each of them - their hopes, challenges, aspirations and inspirations in life.
Tell us about yourself, why you are passionate about what you do, and your journey so far. Owner / creative director / model for my vintage shop, FOX+CATVINTAGE. What lights me up: organically preserving individuality and style. What I love: how sometimes you cry, just because you're here, and you're alive. What are your goals and how do you see yourself progressing in the field? 5 years: cover of Vanity Fair, what's up. And for now, breathing new sartorial life into Memphis and the South with a trove of local vintage lux, redefining beauty in all of its magnificent imperfections. How do you communicate with people? Are you patient? Are you friendly? How open are you to clients’ requirements? Good communication requires integrity, authenticity, empathy, and lots of listening. I put my customers first, always, but within reason. One must show kindness as well as strength, acceptance as well as independence. And never stop being teachable! If you had to do it over again, what would you change? I don't believe in regrets. Everything in the past has come together to put me where I am now. The best I can do is learn from my mistakes and be honorable and make amends to those I have wronged in the past. Who is your hero, and how have they helped you get to where you are? My hero is every woman who fights with courage and grace for who and what they love. People will do anything to make you doubt yourself - screw them. How important are creative education courses? Have you taken any, and did you find them useful? I received my bachelor's degree in art history. Two years afterwards I wrote a journal entry where I stated, "I am not a creative person." All the classes in the world won't make you believe in yourself, that's a journey you have to travel alone. But I would never discourage furthering one's education, life is constant learning, and should one have the opportunity to advance in the arts - take it! Do you have any tips for someone who is just starting out in the industry? Be ready to work your tail off! And if you love every minute of it and find gratitude even in the moments of angst and exhaustion, you're on the right path.
