"You must remember that models are simply canvases, but you are a walking, talking canvas."
Model Citizen App is the platform where we recognise fashion models, photographers, designers, makeup artists, hair stylists, creative directors, bloggers, stylists, and labels around the world. Every day, we feature an individual on Model Citizen Interviews. People get to know each of them - their hopes, challenges, aspirations and inspirations in life.
Tell us about yourself, why you are passionate about what you do, and your journey so far. I've always been an artist at heart, but was never at a point in my life where I felt like I could chase after my dreams. It wasn't until after I graduated college, that I was able to start out on this journey of discovering myself. What are your goals and how do you see yourself progressing in the field? The order of the timeline is very critical to my success. Modeling is just one aspect of my career ambitions, it was only the first step. I needed to build a platform in which to create a fanbase, perfect my stage presence, and simply to advertise my existence. My next step is to introduce acting and singing into the mix, while still pushing forward with full speed towards modeling. As I become more familiar with my obstacles, I slowly crave to take on the next step. How do you communicate with people? Are you patient? Are you friendly? How open are you to clients’ requirements? Anyone who knows me would consider me a people's person. I love having to think on my feet and having to adapt to new situations, uncomfortable or not. I embrace change, even more so chase after it. As a model, it's dire to your career to be able to intake all expectations of the casting, while staying true to your natural talents and insight. You must remember that models are simply canvases, but you are a walking, talking canvas. Be sure to always bring a little bit of yourself to the production, you're there for a reason. It's easy to lose yourself amongst all the demands. If you had to do it over again, what would you change? I refrained from fully implementing my dreams during undergrad, mostly due to pressure from society, my parents, and my boyfriend to complete college and pick a respectful career path. I knew my future never truly lied in the blue or white collar world. I felt as if my life was passing before me and the aguish was taking a toll on my mental and physical health. I soon relocated from Carbondale, Illinois to Miami, Florida after completing my undergrad. From there, I started living for myself. If I could do it all over, I would have started pushing toward my goals sooner, without fear of judgment from those around me. Who is your hero, and how have they helped you get to where you are? My parents are my heros, without their love and financial support, I would be in a significantly more difficult position to achieve my aspirations. How important are creative education courses? Have you taken any, and did you find them useful? Education in any form will never hinder your sucuess. However, you learn the most by just getting yourself out there in the field. Real life experiences will always conquer classroom simulations. Do you have any tips for someone who is just starting out in the industry? You'll never get anywhere simply just by wanting something. Success occurs when preparation meets opportunity. Are you ready?
