Featured Fashion Designer: Kajsa Malmström

"Born in Sweden, Kajsa now lives and works in London."

Model Citizen App is the platform where we recognise fashion models, photographers, designers, makeup artists, hair stylists, creative directors, bloggers, stylists, and labels around the world. Every day, we feature an individual on Model Citizen Interviews. People get to know each of them - their hopes, challenges, aspirations and inspirations in life.

Tell us about yourself, why you are passionate about what you do, and your journey so far. Through looking at geometric shapes, sharp lines, asymmetry and contrasts, Kajsa Malmstrom seeks to find expressions that challenge the eye. Always looking to find ways to negotiate her own set notions of style/good taste or aesthetics and push into somewhat unknown territories stylistically. Born in Sweden, Kajsa now lives and works in London. What are your goals and how do you see yourself progressing in the field? We are hoping to to further push the brand, constantly developing our collections and reaching out to more customers and stockists. How do you communicate with people? Are you patient? Are you friendly? How open are you to clients’ requirements? As much the brand is about our vision, we are passionate about working with bespoke customers as well, creating one off pieces tailor made for their wants and needs. We believe in a personable and friendly approach in all situations If you had to do it over again, what would you change? I wish I had started earlier! Who is your hero, and how have they helped you get to where you are? My university tutor, the renowned silversmith, Simone ten Hompel. She is one of the most driven, skilled, patient and intellectually engaged people I've met and was hugely influential in my development as a designer. She knows how to push people that extra mile and instilling the confidence to do so How important are creative education courses? Have you taken any, and did you find them useful? Hugely important. I believe being in an environment we're all you do is push yourself and question and critique why you do what you do and where your going makes the difference between a decent designer and a great designer. Do you have any tips for someone who is just starting out in the industry? Have patience!
