"I used to be very shy but with every run way or photoshoot I do, I learn something new and I guess we keep learning everyday."
Model Citizen App is the platform where we recognise fashion models, photographers, designers, makeup artists, hair stylists, creative directors, bloggers, stylists, and labels around the world. Every day, we feature an individual on Model Citizen Interviews. People get to know each of them - their hopes, challenges, aspirations and inspirations in life.
Tell us about yourself: Why do you want to work as a model? Why are you interested in modelling as a career?
After I left Iraq and moved to India as a student in 2006, a modeling agency came to our university in Delhi/ India looking for new faces and talents for a new show. My friend who was very interested in modeling was going to the auditioning and he asked me to go audition with him and I refused but he insisted with a few of other friends so I ended up going and I auditioned, from over 50 participants they picked up 7 girls and 3 guys and I was one of theme, and then we got trained and I had my first photoshoot and first runway. After I left India and went back to middle east I thought the modeling thing is over but I guess not, an agent met me through my family and she asked me if I want to be on tv so i said yes, she (The agent) took me to do a photoshoot in the studio and boom she started booking me, within 3 months I was on 7 channels from TV shows to Commercials and BG work. When I moved to Canada in 2012 I was looking for work then and through a friend that I met in the gym I got my first modeling gig, I signed with few agencies and since then I have been modeling. I guess it is just meant to be :)
How important is modelling education: Have you attended modelling courses? What related courses or studies have you taken?
Modeling education is very important, always good to know how to pose, move and walk. Know the difference between posing for an acting headshot or for a portrait shot also it is important to know how to do hair, makeup and dress in style. I used to be very shy but with every run way or photoshoot I do, I learn something new and I guess we keep learning everyday.
What do you think makes someone “fit” to be a model?
Everyone is beautiful and unique, no one is perfect and I think we can all fit in certain criteria.
What are your goals as a model? How do you see yourself progressing in this field?
I use my modeling skills to bring awareness to different things and make a better world and I want to keep doing this. For example in 2016 I did a runway for Fly beyond cancer with other models that were cancer survivors. I also did a charity runway for hope to smile, a calendar for pride rescue to help a shelter that take care and rescue kittens and cats in Hamilton besides a photo shoot to be a part of a blog talking about Coexist. What do you know about advertising psychology and photography?
I come from marketing background as I studied Sport and event marketing at George Brown College and that is another reason why I love promo modeling and being in commercials and prints as I think most of the marketing contents from commercials/ websites/ social media depends on models to convert all the ideas from papers to reality and bring brands to life.
How do you communicate with people? Are you patient? Are you friendly? How open are you to clients’ requirements?
I believe I'm great at communicating which is also very important in this business. I'm very patient with clients and friendly. And willing to work hard to achieve the best results possible.
Do you eat nutritiously? How often do you exercise or go to the gym?
I do watch what I eat all the time and i think everything starts from you groceries, I always do a shopping list and stick to it so no junk food, pop drinks or sweets. I try to get as much protein as I can besides fruits and vegetables. I go to the gym between 3 to 4 times a week. The days that i have to skip gym I workout at home and do some pushups, squats and yoga.
What is your dream role as a model?
I do not have a specific dream role, I just want to do it all and never limit myself.
Do you have any limitations? How do you define your boundaries when choosing to accept a modelling request?
I don't have much limitations or boundaries, I would do anything that is new to me or anything that would be helpful and useful, I just avoid repeating myself. I Always look for new themes/ideas to do in a photoshoot as to me a photo shoot is telling a story through the photos that I am making with the rest of the team.
State your availability: Would you travel? Work full-time, part time? Any hours?
I am available for booking 24/7, as I do modeling/promo modeling/ acting full time.
