"One thing I can say for sure: the self confidence, the good posing and the ability to forget about the existence of the camera comes with time and the experience!"
Model Citizen App is the platform where we recognise fashion models, photographers, designers, makeup artists, hair stylists, creative directors, bloggers, stylists, and labels around the world. Every day, we feature an individual on Model Citizen Interviews. People get to know each of them - their hopes, challenges, aspirations and inspirations in life.
Tell us about yourself: Why do you want to work as a model? Why are you interested in modelling as a career?
My modeling career developed through the last 5 years very interesting. I become Mister Bulgaria in 2012 (I am Bulgarian) and that's how I started having some engagements occasionally. With the time I started making shootings with photographers around Europe and in 2015 I started traveling as an international model. The most interesting thing is that social medias turned out to be my lucky dice, because that's where all my agents have found me, that's also where we ''met''! :)
How important is modelling education: Have you attended modelling courses? What related courses or studies have you taken?
Modeling is business like every other one so for sure you have to invest in yourself in order to benefit from it. Learning how to pose, how to walk, how to behave is really very important. Honestly I haven't taken any special courses for posing or behaving. Some bookers have taught me how to walk though but since I am not that much of a catwalk model it was never that important for me. One thing I can say for sure: the self confidence, the good posing and the ability to forget about the existence of the camera comes with time and the experience!
What do you think makes someone “fit” to be a model?
Attitude comes first! In the world everyone is beautiful be default. So you have to posses something different, something that makes you to stand out when you go to the castings and that's your behaviour. And here I am not talking about being arrogant. First you have to believe in yourself in order to make other people to believe that you are the person they are looking for. That's not easy at all and it comes with the time I believe.
What are your goals as a model? How do you see yourself progressing in this field?
Since I have educational goals as well I am trying to combine the things, but for sure I can admit that I'd love to work in NY, LA and Australia.
What do you know about advertising psychology and photography?
As I have bachelor degree in Economics I have studied quite some things about the advertising process and I can say that nowadays it's becoming really difficult to be original and to still manage to provocate the customers, but of course it's not impossible. Photography is an art for me! The only thing I can say for sure about the good photography is that in order to have good results there has to be a connection between the model and the photographer! Which is why being and extrovert is a necessity for me if you wan to work as a model.
How do you communicate with people? Are you patient? Are you friendly? How open are you to clients’ requirements?
The last sentence of the previous question pretty much answers this one as well:). For me you must be an extrovert, open minded and with good manners if you are working as a model. If there is no good mood on the set, the work is really hard and unpleasant. For sure not all the clients are nice and sometimes it's really irritating due to the language barrier or the personal differences. No matter the case the job of the model is to successfully get into all kind of moods so being a professionalist requires to finish the job no matter the obstacles.
Do you eat nutritiously? How often do you exercise or go to the gym?
I am not on a special diet, but for sure I can say that I am trying to eat healthy- no junk food, dizzy drinks and fast food. When I am traveling most of the times I am cooking and bringing food with me on set. Depends on how busy is my week I am trying to attend the gym saloon not less then 4 times per week.
What is your dream role as a model?
To become a face of a top worldwide underwear brad or shoot in Madonna's video probably haha.
Do you have any limitations? How do you define your boundaries when choosing to accept a modelling request?
All the engagements that I have had were reasonable so I have never had a situation to deny a request.
State your availability: Would you travel? Work full-time, part time? Any hours?
When I am traveling I am working 24/7. When I am at home since my country is small you can't provide from modeling, you can just have some occasional engagements.
What is your favourite moment so far?
I have really great memories from all the shootings I have done all over the world with so many nice people, but probably the most memorable experience was when I was working as a co-host in a daily talkshow in my country. Working in TV was something totally different from modeling and it really inspired me a lot. So many amazing memories from that time, I wish it will happen to me one day again!
