"I started modelling in the hopes it would help with self-confidence."
Model Citizen App is the platform where we recognise fashion models, photographers, designers, makeup artists, hair stylists, creative directors, bloggers, stylists, and labels around the world. Every day, we feature an individual on Model Citizen Interviews. People get to know each of them - their hopes, challenges, aspirations and inspirations in life.
Tell us about yourself: Why do you want to work as a model? Why are you interested in modelling as a career?
I started modelling in the hopes it would help with self-confidence. I was home-schooled and grew up in a very seclusive Samoan/European Christian family, so modelling was pretty taboo, any kind of 'Self Esteem' was deemed sinful so nine siblings and myself grew up with pretty low opinions of ourselves, which in turn was quite a crippling ideology to try and brave the big world whilst possessing. Modelling really helped to break me out of that, I'm definitely not as shy as I used to be.
How important is modelling education: Have you attended modelling courses? What related courses or studies have you taken?
Understanding how your body moves, how you're perceived by the camera etcetera is fairly important but whether you learn those skills though self-education or through courses depends on the individual's ability to perceive themselves. I believe.
What do you think makes someone “fit” to be a model?
They need to have that something 'unique' that draws in the eye to them and keeps it interested.
What are your goals as a model? How do you see yourself progressing in this field?
I'd love to get to a point where I'm respected and well-known for my work. Progression-wise, I'd love to do more in high fashion, I love the creativity of those it surrounds me with!
Do you have any knowledge of the advertising industry?
I am a graphic designer by trade so I like to think I know a fair amount about the creative marketing techniques administered in this industry.
How do you communicate with people? Are you patient? Are you friendly? How open are you to clients’ requirements?
Growing up with seven brothers and two sisters has made my tolerance level quite high. Communication and friendly atmosphere is very important to me in a working environment, I find it hard to work with clients who I cannot properly communicate with.
Do you eat nutritiously? How often do you exercise or go to the gym?
I love my food! But I am a vegetarian. I exercise at home 3-4 times a week but have never been to a gym or made it more than a light hobby.
What is your dream role as a model?
To travel the world and visit my family overseas!
Do you have any limitations? How do you define your boundaries when choosing to accept a modelling request?
I have never modeled in the nude, nor do I intend to. I do not model for overly provocative shoots either for the simple reason that I have family I do not wish to disrespect by doing so.
State your availability: Would you travel? Work full-time, part time? Any hours?
I would love to travel! I do have a stable job but model in between or take time off to do so if it is unavoidable.
