"The crucial point in my search was the trip to Kyrgyzstan, which changed me forever. It was a photo tour, and I found myself in the midst of a group of people related to photography."

Model Citizen App is the platform where we recognise fashion models, photographers, designers, makeup artists, hair stylists, creative directors, bloggers, stylists, and labels around the world. Every day, we feature an individual on Model Citizen Interviews. People get to know each of them - their hopes, challenges, aspirations and inspirations in life.

How did you get to where you are now in your career?

I can say, that I have been creative all my life. And all my life I have been searching for the way to channel and express my feelings and to portray the beauty surrounding me. The crucial point in my search was the trip to Kyrgyzstan, which changed me forever. It was a photo tour, and I found myself in the midst of a group of people related to photography. Kyrgyzstan inspired me so much, that upon my return back home I immediately enrolled into Moscow Photoplay school.

I wanted to get as much knowledge and experience as possible, so few months later I started studying distantly at the New York Institute of Photography. Now I combine studying at both along with private lessons with famous Moscow photographer Ira Rokka (Irina Kolesnikova).

But most importantly I have been watching, learning, creating and practicing since then day and night.

What is your opinion on modeling education?

I think that for the fashion photographer it is very important to know how to work with models. In that respect I get lots of knowledge and techniques from my tutor, who developed her personal methodology based on movie and theater directors approach. In my studies I am particularly interested in and pay extra attention to studying body language.

I love participating in workshops by outstanding photographers, two of the most remarkable were by Nicolas Guerin and Miguel Coelho.

What person has been your inspiration in life? Who is your hero?

I meet heroes every day. There are many of them. They are small children fighting deathly illnesses for their lives. They are people helping others, sacrificing themselves. People, creating something new for other. I meet lots of such people, and I am truly grateful for such encounters.

Do you feel like you've met your goals?

I haven’t met my goals yet, but I am on my way. But nevertheless I feel successful every day, because I overcome myself, my insecurities and fears, I meet lots of creative, talented interesting people, who help me on my way towards my goals, I am supported by my family and people I respect and admire. And I am happy that my works bring joy and happiness to others.

If you had to do it over again, what would you change?

If I could, I would have started my education and career in photography much earlier.

Do you have any tips?

My advice is to work hard – shoot, shoot and shoot again. Study, analyze works both your own and by famous artists – photographers and painters. Expand your comfort zone in your art, that will allow you to grow. Find the way to assist some pros – watch and learn from the way they work.

How do you stay inspired?

Meeting new people, travelling, reading, people’s behavior, doings. Life itself – different situations, stories, words. And most importantly, love.

What photography related things do you recommend?

Before the photoshoot I make my models do a special actors warm up, which helps to relax the model and act and pose more naturally from the very beginning of the photoshoot.

What's your favourite camera?

Canon 6D.

What is your most memorable experience?

I had an interesting experience working in collaboration with a florist artist. The main idea of the project was to compare the beauty of the flowers to the beauty of the human being. I asked the model to move very slowly and not to hold her breath during the photo shoot, which added naturalness to the look and made the photos look magic.
