"My heroes and inspirations are those who challenge the "status quo," the ones who wake up and create their own madness."
Model Citizen App is the platform where we recognise fashion models, photographers, designers, makeup artists, hair stylists, creative directors, bloggers, stylists, and labels around the world. Every day, we feature an individual on Model Citizen Interviews. People get to know each of them - their hopes, challenges, aspirations and inspirations in life.
How did you get to where you are now in your career?
Failure. Photography is art. Art is personal expression. There's always going to be people that love and hate your work. As soon as you sign your name next to a piece, you're giving them the right to articulate their opinion. It takes courage to create something that represents you, it takes more courage to share that. I've never listened to the praises, as much as I remember the critiques. I believe in what I do, it's the people that don't, that challenge me to create in new ways.
What is your opinion on modeling education?
I think modeling classes, like anything else, is a personal decision. If you've been secretly borrowing your mom's clothes, creating your own runway and that's worked for you..keep doing it! I think more important than any class you could take in modeling, is exposure. Shoot with your favorite photographers, strive to wear your favorite designers. There's no amount of exposure that will hurt, after all, even bad press, is good press.
What person has been your inspiration in life? Who is your hero?
I have so many inspirations and that change, they couldn't possibly be summed up into one short explanation. My heroes and inspirations are those who challenge the "status quo," the ones who wake up and create their own madness. Inspired by liberation and ignited by expression. The person who asks why?
Do you feel like you've met your goals?
Not yet. Don't hold your breath, because I may be saying that for as long as I'm here. When I accomplish something, there's something else I can achieve. When I become successful, there's more that I can do.
If you had to do it over again, what would you change?
Honestly, nothing. That may be a different answer looking back on this in the future, but I believe as much in the journey along the way, as the destination.
Do you have any tips?
Do it. If you listen to someone who tells you not to, you won't.
How do you stay inspired?
Immerse myself in people, places and things that make me uncomfortable. Create new experiences. You will never become the best you, without learning.
What photography related things do you recommend?
Don't follow. See, read and listen to all that you can and then diverge your own way. No one can see the monsters in your head, that is where you will find your magic.
How can people reach you for a job?
I'm still a lover of pen pals but if you're into saving trees or something quicker, jot me down something on my contact page or email me directly (contact details are below).
What's your favourite camera?
If it takes a picture, or tries, I'll use it.
