"The reason I want to continue my career in modeling is because it allows me to do what I love, which is not something many in today's job market can say they do."
Model Citizen App is the platform where we recognise fashion models, photographers, designers, makeup artists, hair stylists, creative directors, bloggers, stylists, and labels around the world. Every day, we feature an individual on Model Citizen Interviews. People get to know each of them - their hopes, challenges, aspirations and inspirations in life.
Tell us about yourself: Why do you want to work as a model? Why are you interested in modelling as a career?
Not only do I want to work as a model, but I already work as one, because it is my passion. I get to play art through the outfits I wear and create various versions of that art through the poses and the expressions I put on. The reason I want to continue my career in modeling is because it allows me to do what I love, which is not something many in today's job market can say they do. Lastly, modeling not only lets me express myself artistically, but it also allows me to break stereotypes about the intelligence a model possesses. For example, most people with a degree in any given field consider themselves educated, and yet they do not understand simple things such as how money corrupts politics, or how aggression causes aggression, in other words, the war on terror has done nothing but increased terrorism in the world today. These are just glimpses of how the world really works, a mere drop in the pond of how much I understand about the world.
How important is modelling education: Have you attended modelling courses? What related courses or studies have you taken?
Modeling education I would say is and isn't important. If you are trying to go into the business side of modeling, then sure it is very important, but for just knowing the day to day operations of the modeling world, it isn't as relevant. Most of what can be learned in a course can also be learned through "on the job" training as most models get regardless of going through a course or not. I personally have not taken any courses, related or otherwise, but in the future if I decide to go into the business side of the modeling industry, then I will definitely go study some area of business. But my favorite area belongs to arts.
What do you think makes someone “fit” to be a model?
I would say there are many things that determine if someone is "fit" to go on this career path. Let me list a few: 1.) Charisma 2.) Charm 3.) Elegance 4.) Work Ethic 5.) Punctuality 6.) Beauty 7.) Discipline 8.) Empathy 9.) A Sense of Style 10.) An Educated Mind There is a lot of kind of things than can you make ¨fit¨ in this industry.
What are your goals as a model? How do you see yourself progressing in this field?
My current goals are to simply continue working in the industry as a model for as long as possible because it is something I really enjoy doing. My long term goals consist of growing as a person in my art, my knowledge, my experience. I love to travel to as many places as possible, not only to enjoy the places I go as a model, and write books about my cultural experiences, but to also see all the impressive sights nature has to offer. Nature is my one of my passions because we come from nature, we rely on nature, we are nature. Nature is the one thing I never want to live without, and thus traveling and experiencing nature everywhere I go is a must.
What do you know about the advertising industry?
When it comes to the advertisement industry, I know that Edward Bernays is where it all started. In other words, the way to influence your audience is to appeal to not only their nature, but their culture as well, their background, their environment, and most importantly, there need for something more. When taking a photo, it is not only the model, the outfit, and the makeup that matters, the body language, the background scenery, along with every aspect of the photo's emotional appeal factors must be taken into consideration. Most importantly it must be an artistic expression of who you are, because being disingenuous is something that is easily detected.
How do you communicate with people? Are you patient? Are you friendly? How open are you to clients’ requirements?
I love conversation, but only if its with people who are comfortable with who they are. Authenticity is a must for me. When it comes to requests, I try to be as accommodating as one can, but if someone doesn't know exactly what they are looking for, then I don't mind helping along their imagination with my own artistic expression.
Do you eat nutritiously? How often do you exercise or go to the gym?
If you like hints, then here are a few. I prefer guacamole over chili dip, almond milk over cow's milk, and beans and lentils over a juicy steak. Yes, I'm Vegan and proud of it! Along with my diet that I love, I would say I break out in a sweat about 5 times a week, soaking in the sun as I go for a run in local parks around the world.
What is your dream role as a model?
I would have to say that I have always had fascinations with doing an editorial that would artistically express my love for nature; for example, a jungle backdrop with an exotic animal. Along with this, I have always wanted to expand into combining beautiful scenery with me as a theme for nature and human beings that derive from her. Overall all though, I would say it would be my dream to create my own editorials while working with many other talents and major brands.
Do you have any limitations? How do you define your boundaries when choosing to accept a modelling request?
As far as limitations, I can really only know them in the moment depending on what a client asks, but when considering an offer, the one thing that I will not accept is having to compromise my values, beliefs, and integrity. As far as concrete limitations, I will definitely not be doing any nude shots, nor pornography, or anything dehumanizing or denigrating to my being.
State your availability: Would you travel? Work full-time, part time? Any hours?
I am always up for traveling, so new geographical locations are no problem for me, and I am available at pretty much all hours.
What is your most memorable experience?
For me there is not such thing as the most memorable experience, because I make memorable moments in everything I experience. I am always fully present wherever I go taking in all that nature and my environment has to offer. From the smallest buzzing bee, to the tallness of the skyscraper in the big city, I experience joy in it all, and thus make every experience memorable.
