Model Citizen App is the platform where we recognise fashion models, photographers, designers, makeup artists, hair stylists, creative directors, bloggers, stylists, and labels around the world. Every day, we feature an individual on Model Citizen Interviews. People get to know each of them - their hopes, challenges, aspirations and inspirations in life.
Tell us about yourself, and why you are a good fit as a makeup artist.
I am inspired, I create, I have fun and I love what I do.
Why did you choose this profession?
Because I can always be learning and using my creative mind. It can take me anywhere.
What are the biggest challenges makeup artists have to face?
Achieving your personal standards.
If a customer asks for a style that you are sure would not suit them, how do you convince the customer to go otherwise?
Always with visuals. Always show pictures and examples that they can see for themself. Your first priority is for your client to be happy and if they are coming to you then they respect your professional opinion.
How do you prepare dry and oily skin for foundation makeup application?
Always make sure you're always prepping on a clean canvas. You don't want to trap any dirt or bacteria so always cleanse, match the moisturiser to they're skin type. Ask them their main concerns about they're skin then prime with the suitable primer but also making sure the skin will be well hydrated and smooth.
Do you have any experience in cosmetic retails?
Yes. I am also a beauty and skin therapist at a local skin clinic. I have worked as a beauty therapist for 10 years now. I have a diploma certificate and have had a lot of experience in all areas. Landing me here where I have discovered makeup is my ultimate passion.
Tell us about your experience as a makeup artist?
I have been doing makeup now for 10 years. For 5 years I really focused on more bridal and formal, I have always freelanced as well as in salon applications. Recently I have collaborated with photographers, hair, stylists and models. I have never had so much fun in my work to what I am doing now. I am Hungry for more.
Do you apply makeup for special events? Name some you have covered?
Not as of yet. But if the opportunity were to come up I will be all over it.
What is the difference between applying makeup for a TV shoot and applying makeup for a live appearance party?
The lasting of the application. If it were a live appearance party you want to make sure it will stay on using a primer that contains glycerin as it makes products stick!
How often do you clean your makeup tools such as brushes and combs? How does it affect the wear and tear of your tools and how do you feel about the associated expense?
After every application. I normally double up on my most used tools. Hygiene is so important. Expense doesn't even enter my head. The application is what matters. Washing them after every application doesn't effect my wear and tear if it is done right and using the right brush cleaner.
How do you determine a client’s undertone before you decide what makeup technique to use?
I look at their write and see the colour of they're veins giving me a clear indication if they are pink or yellow undertones.
If you have the passion, never give up and enjoy it. If you enjoy what you do then you will never work a day in your life.
What is your most memorable experience so far?
Adventures to find the perfect photoshoot location, when we pull all our creative minds together and when we see the magic we have made its the best feeling in the world and makes you excited for more!!!
