Tell us about yourself, and why you are a good fit as a makeup artist.

I am very passionate about beauty and being a makeup artist. I am very active in what my clients and models want and I love to bring it to life. This is what Im made for.

Why did you choose this profession?

I chose this profession simply because it makes me happy. I love the joy and excitement that my clients experience once I have created their enhanced look. Its a rewarding feeling.

What are the biggest challenges makeup artists have to face?

The biggest challenges I would say would be creating a name for yourself. Once you become comfortable with your ability the difficulty really comes with getting yourself out there. Its a challenge day to day but I push through and keep going.

If a customer asks for a style that you are sure would not suit them, how do you convince the customer to go otherwise?

I would let them know honestly that I think there is a better suite for them. And i would also try to incorporate what they want with what they need so they can be happy. Which is the ultimate goal.

How do you prepare dry and oily skin for foundation makeup application?

For dry skin moisturizing is key. The dry skin is very delicate and should be treated as such. Oily skin is the opposite but still requires care. Prepping the skin is key for a long lasting makeup application as well as keeping the skin healthy. Primer and moisturizers are your best friend!

Do you have any experience in cosmetic retails?

I do have experience in cosmetics retail. I have worked for Ulta and Sephora and they both were beautiful. I got to help customers learn new techniques as well as learn all the new and trending products.

Tell us about your experience as a makeup artist?

I have enjoyed my experience as a makeup artist. It is really my passion and I love the feeling i get going through the process. My models and clients are my little babies and I make sure I take care of them. To envision art and beauty and bring it to life is trully a calling.

Do you apply makeup for special events? Name some you have covered?

I do apply makeup for special events. Such as weddings, fashion shows, Photoshoots and birthday festivities. Its all beautiful!

What is the difference between applying makeup for a TV shoot and applying makeup for a live appearance party?

Applying makeup for a tv shoot tends to lean toward more of what I call clean makeup. Its where your makeup should lean towards being natural. And coming off as not too heavy. A live appearance party tend to be more of the dramatic looks. Glitter, diamonds, the whole 9 yards.

How often do you clean your makeup tools such as brushes and combs? How does it affect the wear and tear of your tools and how do you feel about the associated expense?

I clean my tools after each use. Especially when it comes to my clients. Its the only way to guarantee cleanliness and to also guarantee your work quality. It doesn't really affect the wear and tear of my tools because I have learned the proper way of cleaning them. The associated expense is minimal. Learning the tips and tricks have really helped me with expenses.

How do you determine a client’s undertone before you decide what makeup technique to use?

Well it has gotten easier overtime. At first it was alot of trial and error. The tones are simply in what you see. Whether its there face or arms, hands. It will show its appearance and you act accordingly.

Any tips?

I want to say to continue your path. There isnt one path to sucess and ones vision of success varies. Know that skill takes time and plenty of practice. If your passionate about it go for it! And be fearless more. With risk comes great advantage. (Still learning that). And never double dip!!! Haha

What is your most memorable experience so far?

My most memorable experience so far has been during my beauty school days. I was selected as the makeup artist to represent my school Aveda in the Edwin Neill Competition. They sent us to Nashville Tennessee and everything was taken care of course. But the fact that an institute as great as Aveda chose me to use my skills was a beautiful feeling and sense of accomplishment. I went and gave it all I got with my team and it was beautiful. Our image is hanging in the school today. I will never forget that experience.
