"I think being "fit" or not, is a matter of attitude and professionalism."
Model Citizen App is the platform where we recognise fashion models, photographers, designers, makeup artists, hair stylists, creative directors, bloggers, stylists, and labels around the world. Every day, we feature an individual on Model Citizen Interviews. People get to know each of them - their hopes, challenges, aspirations and inspirations in life.
Tell us about yourself: Why do you want to work as a model? Why are you interested in modelling as a career?
I started having interest in the modelling industry when I received opportunities to take part in photo shoots and pageant competitions in university. I enjoy dancing, performing and i realise modelling is in fact another form of performance in itself. I learn to take on a different persona and explore a different side of myself in front of the camera. The process is a lot about patience, trial and error and self-discovery. I hope to explore modelling as a freelance option as i embark on other career opportunities, to learn from and grow with like-minded people in this line.
Do you have any limitations? How do you define your boundaries when choosing to accept a modelling request? What is your dream role as a model?
As far as I know, models are required to try out different fashion pieces and clothings. To be honest, I am still an amateur and do have my own personal boundaries. I am not yet comfortable with overly revealing clothes or over the top make up. So i do hope that i can receive assignments that appreciate the natural, healthy side of models. My dream role as a model is to represent a natural, healthy type of beauty and style, such as being a sports/health brand model. In this generation, girls may struggle to present a perfect and slim image but I hope I can inspire and remind others not to lose sight of natural beauty and good health.
What do you think makes someone “fit” to be a model?
I think being "fit" or not, is a matter of attitude and professionalism. Apart from having the external qualities, having the willingness to learn, communicate and adapt is important. Therefore, it is also about taking a lot of initiative in knowing the requirements of the clients and understanding their brand. If we're not comfortable, we should clarify before accepting. But if we do accept, we should remain professional and do our best to commit to the assignments. And of course, having the discipline to take good care of our health and appearance is crucial. We should be able to present our best side whenever there's opportunities to take on new assignments.
Do you eat nutritiously? How often do you exercise or go to the gym?
I try to eat a healthy, balanced diet with adequate intake of fruits and vegetables. I try to avoid deep fried food and drink sufficient water, but of course, allow myself to indulge in sweet desserts at times. I practise yoga regularly and enjoy all forms of outdoor and indoor sports, ranging from badminton, swimming to rock climbing! Yoga is a combination of strength, flexibility, body awareness and balance. Through yoga, I really have a healthier mind and body. As a budding yoga instructor, I never give up practising and living healthily, and hope I can start teaching more people and share the love for yoga with the community.
