"It is great to see that as we live in a multicultural world there is so much diversity in the modelling industry now and the industry does not have 'one type of look'."
Model Citizen App is the platform where we recognise fashion models, photographers, designers, makeup artists, hair stylists, creative directors, bloggers, stylists, and labels around the world. Every day, we feature an individual on Model Citizen Interviews. People get to know each of them - their hopes, challenges, aspirations and inspirations in life.
Tell us about yourself: Why do you want to work as a model? Why are you interested in modelling as a career?
I was approached by a Photography Producer in May 2015 who asked my mum to bring me in for a casting for a large national brand. Luckily I got the job and was so excited and thrilled to do my very first job and get paid for it. I convinced mum to let me model. She wasn't keen on the idea but agreed to it eventually.
How important is modelling education: Have you attended modelling courses? What related courses or studies have you taken?
I have not done any modelling courses. I strongly believe on the job training is the way you learn. I took tips and feedback and advice from wonderful photographers and producers, and I think I learned even more from the on set stylists.
What do you think makes someone “fit” to be a model?
I'm not sure how to answer this question other than to say, if you truly believe in yourself, and are passionate about wanting to do modelling then I say "just go for it". Having a great agency that believes in you also helps. It is great now because modelling is not all about the perfect look and beauty. It is about confidence, personality too. It is great to see that as we live in a multicultural world there is so much diversity in the modelling industry now and the industry does not have "one type of look". You also have to have thick skin as you do get knock backs but don't take it personally as you might not have suited the brand.
What are your goals as a model? How do you see yourself progressing in this field?
I am just very young but I do love modelling. Next year I will be in High School, so mum says as long as modelling is not affecting my grades I can continue with it. We will have to wait and see. Watch this space haha.
What do you know about the advertisement industry, advertising psychology and photography?
I know the Advertising Industry is huge. Society today is obsessed with the media (magazines, TV, catalogues, social media). People are so obsessive as to what's is the latest trend, what celebrities are wearing, what's in fashion, what's out of fashion etc. I try not to too consumed by it as I have my own sense of style and who I am!
How do you communicate with people? Are you patient? Are you friendly? How open are you to clients’ requirements?
I was quite shy for a few years but modelling has built up my confidence and I have come out of my shell. I think I am a very friendly person. I am well mannered and polite.; I am kind and caring and also compassionate. If someone is upset I will try and help them and make them fell better. I am told I follow direction and instruction effortlessly and photographers and producers say I am great to work with. I am very open to client requirements and do my best to cater to them. I like to also give my own input if I might have an idea or suggestion. It's a TEAM effort.
Do you eat nutritiously? How often do you exercise or go to the gym?
My mum says both by older sister and I eat like boys. We both have huge appetites but don't put on a lot of weight. I think it is just our genes. My mum was a lanky girl too. I do weekly activities which include Squad Swimming, Ballet and Tap. I do love lots of fruit especially mangoes and strawberries. Love broccoli and asparagus too, love dairy and chicken is my favourite meat. I do like my chocolates especially Lindt and my favourite desserts are vanilla cheesecake and sticky date pudding.
What is your dream role as a model?
My dream role as a model would be to do Fashion Week in Paris and Model for Vogue.
Do you have any limitations? How do you define your boundaries when choosing to accept a modelling request?
No nudity whatsoever.
State your availability: Would you travel? Work full-time, part time? Any hours?
I am available for all modelling work. It would not be full time at this stage as I am still in school but can definitely work around my schooling hour and yes I would travel. I travelled interstate for a shoot back in May 2016 and loved meeting new friends and representing new brands.
What is your most memorable experience?
My most memorable experience was doing a outdoor shoot with Aver and Line Photographers for the International Magazine Hooligans. I modelled Stella McCartney clothing for the first time as well as Zara and Country Road. The magazine comes out in August 2016 I am just so excited to see the photos.
