"My inspiration right now has to be Master Photographer John Denton. His approachable manner and infinite creativity has helped me tremendously over the last 18 months and made me realise my potential."

Model Citizen App is the platform where we recognised fashion models, photographers, designers, makeup artists, hair stylists, creative directors, bloggers, stylists, and labels around the world.Every day, we feature an individual on Model Citizen Interviews. People get to know each of them- their hopes, challenges, aspirations and inspirations in life.

How did you get to where you are now in your career? Tell us something interesting about you, something inspiring. Don't be shy. :)

I left the advertising industry as a graphic artist with loads of flowing creative ideas around 12 years ago. I have always had a camera, but I purchased a basic DSLR camera (it started from here) and invested on professional training to enable me to lock down those ideas in my head, and present them with my style. After years of being a professional wedding & portrait photographer and now with an array of different camera & lenses, I have extended my services into Fashion & Boudoir creating fantastic looks for various models and wedding boudoir for my wedding clients.

How important is modelling education: Have you attended modelling courses? What related courses or studies have you taken?

Working with models is highly essentials, I have attended quite a few basic photography courses over the years and learnt to shoot male & female subjects getting the best shapes & looks for each genre. It is important also to gain some background knowledge of the model you work with to evoke an emotional response, which works best for me when shooting. Training with Master Photographer John Denton working with various models on a regular basis honing skills and pushing the limits of creativity and camera know-how.

What person has been your inspiration in life? Who is your hero?

My inspiration right now has to be Master Photographer John Denton. His approachable manner and infinite creativity has helped me tremendously over the last 18 months and made me realise my potential. I don't have a hero as such, what I do have are my three lovely children and wife Paula who have supported my obsession and put up with an ongoing passion for the creative image.

Do you feel like you’ve met your goals and are successful?

Overall I like what I am creating photographically, but I always strive to learn more and push myself whenever I have the camera in my hand, I never get complacent, that's the road to ruin, and there are loads more to create & photograph.

If you had to do it over again, what would you change?

To be honest, I wouldn't change anything, the good, and the bad times of running your own photography business, it makes me what I am today.

What advice would you give someone who is young and wants to have a position such as yours one day?

As photographers we are open to subjective comments, especially in society today, there are so many images and photographers. My advice is keep working, never back down and always strive to learn more, your passion for imagery will shine through eventually.

How do you stay inspired?

Clients keep me inspired; it's great when they give you great feedback or they flow tears at your slideshow presentation of their photography.

What photography related tips do you recommend?

Get to know your camera inside and out and push yourself outside your comfort zone whenever you can, they are tips that were advised to me.

How can people reach you for a job? And how would they know your rate?

They can visit my Instagram or Facebook @dlinfordphotography account or my website www.davidlinfordphotography.co.uk

What's your favourite camera? Right now for me, it has to be the Canon 5D MKIII. I have played around with Pentax Medium format and Hasselblad's too (one day)...

Tell us about an interesting time when you were working with a model.

Working with a model recently for beauty shots for our advertising features - Our model Katie appeared at first meek & mild, very pretty and slim. It later transpired during the shoot she was a motorcycle stunt rider and had appeared in a few major stunts in current British TV programs. You wouldn't have thought she was into throwing herself off motorcycles…
