"My mum took my sister and me to a Bardot Junior store, and there were pictures of me all over the store. It was so exciting!"
Model Citizen App is the platform where we recognised fashion models, photographers, designers, makeup artists, hair stylists, creative directors, bloggers, stylists, and labels around the world.Every day, we feature an individual on Model Citizen Interviews. People get to know each of them- their hopes, challenges, aspirations and inspirations in life.
Zara as young as ten years old shows a great potential being a supermodel. It's just a matter of how her education and her dreams take her. (Her mum is very particular with her grades :) Please enjoy this short interview with this young lady with her mum.
Tell us about yourself and your (son/daughter). How did he/she get her interest in modelling and as a parent, how did you talk to her?
Initially Zara won a modelling photo comp with Bardot Junior when she was five years old. Only recently has she decided to be represented by a modelling agency and got some work again, with Bardot Junior and Moose Toys.
How important is modelling education: Has he/she attended modelling courses? What related courses or studies has he/she taken?
She is focusing on her everyday school work.
What do you think makes someone “fit” to be a model?
Take instruction, be easing going while having fun.
What do you know about the advertisement industry, advertising psychology, and photography?
How do you communicate with people? Are you patient? Are you friendly? How open are you to clients’ requirements?
Yes bubbly, patient and friendly.
Does he/she eat nutritiously? How do you balance his/her studies and modelling career?
She is 10, so I don't focus on her diet. She will continue to model as long as her grades stay high.
What is his/her dream role as a model? What do you aspire for him/her?
Miranda Kerr, a country girl at heart but has done so much with her life and inspired others about looking after yourself.
Does he/she have any limitations? How do you define her boundaries when choosing to accept a modelling request?
Yes, if she is missing out on something important in school.
I read the contract before accepting the job.
State his/her availability: Would you travel? Work full-time, part-time? Any hours?
We can travel easily as her dad works in the airline industry, but it would have to work around her commitments with school too.
As a parent, what pieces of advice could you give to the parents reading this?
My advice would be to keep the modelling a happy experience. I make sure and always check in at shoots to ensure that she is enjoying the experience and having fun. When they go for a casting, explain how they are looking for a particular look, there is nothing wrong with them. I was initially worried about the rejection, but she has been positive and loves it when she does get chosen. They are still little children, so it's important that they don't feel any pressure, and have fun with the whole experience.
For the young model: Tell us your most memorable experience in modelling so far?
My mum took my sister and me to a Bardot Junior store, and there were pictures of me all over the store. It was so exciting!
