"You can make a wonderful first impression with a great coat; it's the first thing you see really when someone is walking up to you - and that's what our brand stands for Make a statement with your coat. Make a #firstimpression"
Charlotte is one of the nicest people we have ever spoken to. By just looking at her designs and products, you would be able to see how much passion she put into her work. For me who loves coats, I call it magic.
We first knew her from our first issue. We did not hesitate to give her the most number of pages in magazine, simply because, WE ADORE HER.
If you believe her work is amazing, her interview is so much for than that. We love it and hope you wil learn from her too.
What inspired you to start fashion label?
I have always dreamed of having my fashion label since I was seven yrs old really and decided two years ago to give it a shot and try to make it happen and loving every minute of it so far.
Who is behind fashion label?
Charlotte Zimbehl, 33-year-old, born and raised in Germany, went to high school in Dublin, studied fashion design in Munich and Italy, worked in design and product management for big corporate companies as well as smaller companies in Germany, Sweden, Italy, China and since five years London.
How many team members do you have right now on board? (you can mention their names if you wish)
I am a start-up so there is just me at the moment looking after everything. I do outsource certain things such as pattern making, and I have an amazing factory that is making all of my products here in London.
We love all you fashion label. The products are amazing and superb, how long do you create them?
The product life cycle is usually six months; that means from creating/first designs to showing the collection at a trade show/fashion week. And it takes a year until products are in store/online, available to the end consumer to buy.
What is your vision for your fashion label?
To become the Go-to-label for Outerwear. If a woman is looking for a coat of quality and style, the first address should be Charlotte Zimbehl. There is still a bit to do until then, but that's the ultimate goal, to be honest. My products are there to empower women, to make them feel good and self-confident. Products should become 'favourite' items in every woman's wardrobe.
What are your customer's most favourite collections?
Well, we are an outerwear label so cater for all wishes when it comes to blazers, jackets and coats. If someone is looking for a timeless, stylish quality coat, then we are the label to go to. We offer chick and flattering styles that women will feel confident and beautiful in.
What is your personal favourite collection?
My favourite collection is my most recent collection, SS17, which is out in January 2017. I feel I have now found my handwriting/the handwriting of the brand and I am looking forward to carrying this on further into more seasons. Having said all of that, I always love my 'newest' collection the most, maybe because I just completed it and I am filled with pride what I created and 'brought to life'.
How did you discover a need for this type of product in the marketplace?
I have always loved jackets and coats and thought there was space in the marketplace for a beautifully tailored, sophisticated and stylish outerwear. There are good brands out there, but there is definitely room for some more amazing outerwear pieces I think.
You can make a wonderful first impression with a great coat; it's the first thing you see really when someone is walking up to you - and that's what our brand stands for Make a statement with your coat. Make a #firstimpression.
What has been the most challenging aspect of getting your brand off the ground and how did you overcome that?
I guess the most challenging part is to get your name out there, to gain trust with buyers, press and my consumer in the end. Hence platforms like yours are amazing as they help small start-ups like me to get a bit closer to my goal. So thank you very much!
And overcoming this challenge? Not quite sure how to answer this and if there is an answer at all. I am trying my best to use social media, word of mouth and my network to get my brand name out there, all combined with a good portion of luck this will hopefully work. Fingers crossed!
What are two aspects of business in which you believe a new brand should invest resources? Marketing (and social media)
Product Development (getting fit and product right is crucial, especially for a female shopper)
What are the services that consumers can take advantage of from your company?
Higher quality and durability, products are made to last without being a luxury product. No mass products. Socially responsibly made: fabrics are made in Italy, and we produce local/in Europe. Everything is ethically sourced and made, and we try to show our consumers how every coat is made and who is making it. For further follow us on Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat.
Any pieces of advice for young entrepreneurs who want to open similar labels like yours?
It's not the easiest of tasks to set up a label and get the name out there but if this is your dream and passion go for it. Try it. You might regret it if you don't and I am 100% sure that you can only take good things from the journey.
How do our readers buy your products? Do you ship internationally?
All of our products are available online: www.charlottezimbehl.com and yes, we do ship internationally.
Do you collaborate with fashion blogger? How do you collaborate with them?
Yes, I have collaborated with fashion bloggers and would love to do so more in future. If anyone is interested in working with Charlotte Zimbehl, please get in touch, always interested in hearing from different people and their ideas.
