Featured Model: Paula Sojo

"I always thought that I was born with the natural skill of posing for pictures and acting in commercials. I learned later when commercials and photoshoots started coming my way that it really is something that takes practice as well as determination."

In such a short time, Paula has learnt the realities of the fashion industry. She has learnt that modelling does not just come naturally, it takes time. And success is not something that happens overnight. She is down to earth and documents her journey on Instagram, where we even saw a cheeky photo of french fries with the caption "devoured in 0.00000742 seconds". Please have a read of Paula's interview and check our her photos!

Tell us something interesting about you, something inspiring. Don't be shy. :)

When I was a baby. I posed for a couple of magazines, made it on the front covers and I was also in a couple of commercials. From seeing these ads with my face on them, I fell in loe with the whole idea of pursuing this dream. I want to be able to see myself in jobs that I've gotten and things that I've worked for in order for me to feel proud of myself in a sense that "I've made it".

How important is modelling education: Have you attended modelling courses? What related courses or studies have you taken?

I've never taken any modelling courses. I always thought that I was born with the natural skill of posing for pictures and acting in commercials. I learned later when commercials and photoshoots started coming my way that it really is something that takes practice as well as determination. Before I signed with the agency that I'm with now, I would research how to "pose for pictures" and "walk the runway" for hours on end. So I never threw myself into a shoot without knowing anything.

What do you think makes someone “fit” to be a model?

I believe that anyone who has the perseverance and dedication is "fit" to be a model. I don't think you need to be 5'11 and a size 0 in order to work in this field. I truly believe that everyone is beautiful and there are so many jobs waiting for us all it just takes patience and perseverance and a matter of believing in oneself.

What are your goals as a model? How do you see yourself progressing in this field?

My goal as a model is to have the experience of seeing new places and meeting new people and learning from it all in order to succeed in this industry. Another goal that I have had for a while is also to inspire people especially ones that dream of working in this field. I want them to know that not everything is going to come to them overnight. I think that if I keep working as hard as I am working right now, hopefully I will have the opportunity of travelling to a new place for a photoshoot or runway show.

How do you communicate with people? Are you patient? Are you friendly? How open are you to clients’ requirements?

I am very outgoing, patient and friendly when it comes to working with others. I also love working as a team with different hairstylists, makeup artists and directors.

Do you eat nutritiously? How often do you exercise or go to the gym?

Yes, I eat nutritiously. During the summer time I go on bike rides and go to local parks for walks or to play soccer but during the school year I normally just partake in the gym classes.

What is your dream role as a model?

My dream role as a model is catwalk or print.

Do you have any limitations? How do you define your boundaries when choosing to accept a modelling request?

When a modelling request comes to me it normally should be through my agent and if it's not I'm very cautious about taking the job because I am aware of the risks in this industry.

State your availability: Would you travel? Work full-time, part time? Any hours?

I'm in High school right now so it would be very difficult for me to work full time. For now, I work part time.

What is your most memorable experience as a model?

My most memorable modelling experience would have to be a photoshoot that I did recently with a very well known photographer. I loved how the pictures turned out and the crew was amazing.
