Featured Model: Kristina Pakhomova

"I admire many strong women. One of them is Meryl Streep. When she was still young and unknown, film producers and casting directors called her "ugly"..."

Kristina has tried a bit of everything - acting, creative directing, writing and modelling, and she seems to love being able to do all of them at the same time! Kristina is one of a rising number of models we are coming across who choose to work in Asia, where she says she found it easier to find work. We think Kristina has a lot of talent, and is a very versatile model. We hope you really enjoy Kristina's interview!

Tell us about yourself: Why do you want to work as a model? Why are you interested in modelling as a career?

I am a Russian actress and model living in Singapore. I act for theatre, film and TV. Apart from acting I am also a writer, creative director and a voice over. Last year I wrote, directed and acted in my own one-woman show "Dark Room" and have been performing it in multiple locations in Singapore. It is a story about an Expat wife who straggles with her life choices, identity and family.

How important is modelling education: Have you attended modelling courses? What related courses or studies have you taken?

Living and working in Singapore I found it's quite easy to find work without any prior modeling training. I just networked a lot and learn on a job. Plus my acting skills helped me a lot during photo and video shoots.

What do you think makes someone “fit” to be a model?

Being confident about my body and who I am is very important to me. To have my own voice is crucial. Confidence is sexy and people can feel it.

What are your goals as a model? How do you see yourself progressing in this field?

Frankly speaking I always address myself as an actress first and then a model. I think it gives me lots of character, which really helps me in the modeling industry too. So my goal is to keep progressing in both acting and modeling skills to gain success, getting to know more professional and talented people and travel the world.

What do you know about the advertisement industry, advertising psychology and photography?

The advertisement industry can be very demanding, but if it's really good - it allows creativity to flow. This is the kind of industry I want to be a part of.

How do you communicate with people? Are you patient? Are you friendly? How open are you to clients’ requirements?

I always stay professional no matter what and I am nice and friendly to people who behave professionally too. If I feel like someone is wasting my time I'll do my best to complete the job and have fun, but I'll make a mental note to never work with them again.

Do you eat nutritiously? How often do you exercise or go to the gym?

I'm a gym rat. I love running, interval training, yoga and I always follow my healthy diet. But every now and then I have my cheat days and try to never feel guilty about that.

What is your dream role as a model?

I admire many strong women. One of them is Meryl Streep. When she was still young and unknown, film producers and casting directors called her "ugly" and she really struggled to find her inner voice and become confident, but she did it. That's what makes her a kick-ass actress.

Do you have any limitations? How do you define your boundaries when choosing to accept a modelling request?

As an actress I have to think twice when I accept any modeling job and think how would that affect my reputation in the future. This is just something I have to be aware of. So for now I choose not to do nude shoots. Let's see if I'll change my mind some day :)

State your availability: Would you travel? Work full-time, part-time? Any hours?

I love my work and I love traveling. So when combined it's even better. And yes I do it full time.
