"A model must be sympathetic, with his or her feet on the ground and polite."
When we came across Shon on Instagram, we knew we had to feature him straight away! In such a short space of time, he has been featured on magazine covers and rose to be internationally recognised. We had lots of fun interviewing him - in his answers we could see his wit, and we love how he "says it like it is". His face seems to work in almost any photo shoot, no matter the theme or context. Depending on the angle, he can have an element of prestige, or have a more sexy look.
We hope you enjoy Shon's wonderful interview! Please check out this amazing man's photos.
Tell us about yourself: Why do you want to work as a model? Why are you interested in modelling as a career?
I think that being a model is a great way to meet people from all over the world. Making contacts and getting to places I never thought I’d go. In the model world, everything is permitted. A world that always surprises you about how far you can go after your dreams.
How important is modelling education: Have you attended modelling courses? What related courses or studies have you taken?
I never did courses in anything; I've learned the hard way on my own and I believed in myself and I knew I could get there with perseverance and motivation. Education is very important to me even though I know there are a lot of models who have never heard of the concept of education.
What do you think makes someone “fit” to be a model?
I think that looking different from the rest is very important in modelling, but in my opinion and from experience in the industry, they are looking for models with character, not only with beauty. A model must be sympathetic, with his or her feet on the ground and polite.
What are your goals as a model? How do you see yourself progressing in this field?
Most of the goals I have set for myself as a model, I have achieved so far. I believe I have arrived at a place that many models dream of getting. What this means is that from now on, I am ready to just appreciate whatever life throws at me.
How do you communicate with people? Are you patient? Are you friendly? How open are you to clients’ requirements?
I come from a very religious and warm home. I learned growing up that it is important to be nice to everyone, and smile.
Do you eat nutritiously? How often do you exercise or go to the gym?
I qualify myself for the season and work if I know my body is in a shape where I can be photographed in underwear. Therefore, I work to maintain a regime of proper nutrition and diet until I get the result I want. On the day of a shoot, I eat what I want and try to get to the gym fives time at week.
What is your dream role as a model?
My biggest dream is to be a presenter at Armani, because some years ago I had the option to star in the campaign of Armani, but they took a different model last minute.
Do you have any limitations? How do you define your boundaries when choosing to accept a modelling request?
I have no limits. Everything depends on the type of work offered and price.
State your availability: Would you travel? Work full-time, part-time? Any hours?
Modelling is my full time job, so I am readily available at any moment to be called to work.
